Suzy Q Select were finally crowned champions of The City Pool League again, wrestling back the trophy that had taken up residence at the Craftsman for the last 3 seasons. Q’s should consider themselves very worthy champions, only dropping 36 frames over 22 matches, and recording a phenomenal 101 frame difference. With the Rotherham Road side finishing 8 points clear in 2nd place, can anyone else break the stranglehold that these 2 teams have on the Premier Division?

In a brand new competition this year, a brand new team for the leage won it!
Boat Inn won v lost Old Red Horse
I will start as normal, by thanking all the people who have come together today to help us at the Bishopsgate. From Andy, Mandy, and all their staff for hosting our annual event again, to Mick Dicks and crew from Tablesport for the tables, and of course the referees who have the thankless task of ensuring fair play for the best part of twelve hours. If any of the above were missing, the day would be a lot harder than it already is.

Everyone here today should be congratulated on their achievements aver the last year, and whilst there are a large number of familiar faces back again today, it is also refreshing to see some new faces here this year. It is remarkable to note that of the 14 finals being held here today, 10 competitions will have different winners to last year. It is also good to see the youth of Coventry doing well, with Kristi Caulfield appearing in both Monday and Wednesday Aggregate finals, and Joanne McLaughlin appearing in the Ladies final. Lets hope that the Warwickshire Youth team also put in a good show in our Charity Speed Pool Challenge at 3:30pm.

On the subject of Charity, and the Speed Pool, the winners of today’s challenge, whoever they may be, have generously offered to donate their winnings of £100 to the Jordan Accardi appeal. For those of you not familiar with the appeal, Jordan is 4 years old and has recently been diagnosed as having a rare form of cancer that affects only 100 children in the UK each year. Jordan’s parents are trying to raise enough money to send Jordan to America for a life saving operation not available in the UK. The City Pool League have been asked for their help in this, as mentioned in the last 2 league meetings, and I hope that you can all do your bit for the cause. A number of blackout cards will be in circulation today in aid of the appeal, and if any of you wish to make any further donations, a collection bucket will be on the bar.

So there we have it. Let the beer flow as another Finals day begins, and all that remains is for me to wish all today’s competitors the best of luck.

Yours in Sport,

Andy Picknell
City Pool League Secretary
